June is more than welcome this year

June is more than welcome this year, after struggling through the last hot, humid days of May. This writer spent the last day of last month on a hike with the birding group. While we saw some nice birds, butterflies and wildflowers, a certain amount of time was spent wondering whether this was a foolish thing to do in such heat. While May is a spring month, and we expect variable types of weather in the spring months, July weather isn’t necessarily one of the types. However, no complaints. Now it is June. Flowers are blooming, strawberries are ripening, the heating bill has gone to zero, and the air is warm and sweet.
How much time is spent wondering if what we are doing is foolish. How much is spent realizing, in retrospect, a certain thing we did in the past was foolish. Our days go by, faced with dozens of decisions. Most of the time we base our actions on experience – we’ve learned what to do in certain circumstances because we’ve been there before. Some decisions we make are immediate and involve little thought. But some decisions require real thinking and will, perhaps affect how our lives go from here. A job interview, a move to a new location, a school choice, taking on debt, the choice of a church home; these will, to a greater or lesser extent, determine a lot about how our lives go from that point on.
Decision-making, depending on the implications, can be easy, or can be overwhelming. While some decisions depend on simple recall, some require more serious sifting of facts. Perhaps consultation. While it’s comforting to talk to people who are familiar with such choices, Christians need to turn to the ultimate Source of wisdom. It’s time to resort to our all-wise God in prayer. One can only be in awe of some of the needed knowledge that comes to one after prayer. Things we might never have thought of. Things that a friend or expert might forget, or never consider important enough to mention. As we travel through life, it’s great to have our wise God to call on to smooth and direct our paths.
As for that hot birding hike we mentioned – we finished part one, cancelled part two, retired to a lovely picnic bench under some tall spruces, and luxuriated in a refreshing breeze by the lake. Great decision! We hope your June is filled with a great decision to enjoy each day and take time to luxuriate in God’s blessings and His creation all around you. Virginia
