The Flame, A Poem from a Friend
The Flame
I cannot see the candle But for the flame
And in a room full of friends Does anyone know my name?
My memory fades And my body rusts
Not totally sure Of just whom I can trust
Who, I ask, who has my back?
As I slip quietly and steadily through the cracks
I Can’t see what’s ahead And I can’t look back behind
I Just trust with faith I know in heart and mind
That we are like the sheep Who gather In the fold
I try very hard To protect my soul
From the wayward goats Who haphazardly come and go
Those un- guarded souls Who think but do not know
That a shepherd has come To guide his sheep
To a safer place To lie and sleep
And in his shadow Of love so deep
We shall reside To sow and reap
He protects his herd And his land If you trust him now
And take his hand He comes as a beacon In the darkest night
For those to follow And do things right
It’s HIS Love and forgiveness They hold the key
And He will open the gates So lovingly In his glowing aura
We will reside With guides and angels By our sides
Our savior is here To save our souls
To protect our feet From burning coals
HE walks in peace Cloaked in love
With the Holy Spirit From up above
The teacher, the healer Of all things known
And he sees how our souls Have surely grown
The time has come Through out all the lands
From the seas and mountains To the desert sands
Stretch out your arms And humbly pray
He will guide our journey day by day
As we are called to order To do what we must all do
Just listen with your heart It will see you through
Be that light in the dark For them who can’t see
For the light of love Is the greatest mystery
It’s all we seek It’s all we desire
It Is the epiphany of love That sparks our flame on fire. Patty Thompson
