CHRISTMAS

Posted on December 1, 2017.

It’s just remarkable how quickly we have gotten to the last month of the year.  Can anyone remember what happened to spring or summer?
No matter, December is a very busy month for many of us.  It’s the only month in which many of us indulge in corresponding with old friends and family who live far, far away.  It’s also the month in which many of us, surrounded by things – so many of them not really needs – wrack our brains trying to figure out what to get to put under the Christmas tree.  And then there are the parties, concerts and other social obligations….
If we are in contact with children, with their infectious enthusiasm, we spend energy trying to balance listening to great expectations and telling the Birthday Story.  If we’re in close contact with folks who’re not particularly graceful under fire, we exhaust our supply of patience.  If we make plans and commitments that exceed the time to accomplish, we wilt under the stress of establishing priorities.
Somehow, we find it hard to believe that a loving God meant it to be this way.
We hope that you will be able to slow down at intervals and ponder just why we have this season of busy days filled with plans and pressures.
Each Sunday in December, Holland Bible Church offers a time to meditate on this time of preparation, this season of Advent.  It’s a time to stop and recognize the magnitude of Jesus’ birth into this troubled world; a time to put Christ into Christmas.  And then, when all is in readiness, join us on Christmas Eve for Candles and Carols.
Have a peace-filled Advent Season and a blessed Christmas.
